SEATING CAPACITY
216 in pews, 15 on chairs in side Chapel and 30 in Choir gallery. Space for 72 additional seats.
CONSTRUCTION
Reinforced concrete frame made with a Portland stone aggregate, acid etched to produce a stone-like finish.
WALLS
External clay bricks from Ewhurst.
Internal flint bricks from Rotherham, Yorks.
External concrete blocks faced with cobbles around plinth and with Cornish granite chippings above floor level.
Internal profile blocks finished with Cornish granite aggregate.
Plaster Walls finished in rubbed tyrolean rendering, with an addition of mica to give a sparkle. The ends of the Sanctuary wall are finished in Sienna coloured hessian.
FLOOR
Cork tiles, wax polished, on insulated concrete floor.
Sanctuary area carpeted, with surrounds in Staffordshire blue paving bricks.
WINDOWS
The windows to the Church are double glazed.
The stained glass window to the side Chapel was designed by Pierre Fourmaintraux and made by the White Friars Glass Company in resin bonded concrete. It depicts the three Crosses of Calvary.
The entrance porch window also depicts Calvary.
The glass for this window was made by Geoffrey Robinson of Bristol.
SPIRE
Cruciform in white fibre glass, supporting orb and Cross.
PULPIT
Made of afrormosia wood with hessian insets and set in Staffordshire blue brick plinth. Side panel in ceramic tiles incorporating the Wesley shell, designed and made by Diana Beardmore (a local art student).
FONT
Designed by Claude Smale and cast in cement fondu from clay moulds.
ORGAN
Rebuilt by Noel Mander from the North Street Church organ.
INTERNAL WOODWORK
Doors, Communion Table, Lectern, Rail, Cross and Pews in afrormosia (a hardwood from Ghana).
Choir pews and Organ case in agba (a hardwood from Nigeria).
EMBROIDERY
By Mrs. Sankey (a member of the Church) depicting on the Pulpit Fall the Bread of Life and on the Lectern the Word of God. Designs by the Architect.
HEATING
Low pressure hot water system heated by twin oil fired boilers in the basement, feeding hot water to fan convectors thermostatically controlled and sited around the perimeter walls of the Church.
LIGHTING
Tungsten filament lamps set at high level in roof, with spot lights to feature Sanctuary and Organ. The Cross on the top of the Spire is floodlit.
CAR PARK
Capacity 20 cars in the basement of the building and 10 cars at the rear of the building.
